LISTSERV: February Updates

  • Hopefully you are all aware of our upcoming Second Annual Renewable Energy Secure Communities (RESCO) Experts Symposium taking place at UC Davis, February 22-23, 2011 at the Activities & Recreation Center (ARC) Ballroom A. For best registration fee, register by this Thursday February 10! Please note that online registration closes on Friday February 17.

Why you should attend: California Renewable Energy Secure Communities (RESCO) projects are now generating results, and we’ve organized the two-day symposium to highlight and discuss replicable and broadly applicable results and solutions, and shared needs of RESCO stakeholders.

Four half-day sessions with federal, state, county and project speakers will provide you with updates and perspectives on RESCO integrated deployment, decentralized energy, smart grid deployment, and campus-based energy systems. To register, view agenda and more information, please visit the Cal-IRES RESCO Experts Symposium website: http://cal-ires.ucdavis.edu/events/2011-resco-symposium

  • Congratulations to Supervisor and MEA Chairman Charles McGlashan, and Dawn Weisz, the agency's Executive Officer, (who will speak at the RESCO event) of the Marin Energy Authority (MEA)! They were selected by the Power Association of Northern California as co-recipients of "Persons of the Year – 2010," awarded in January 2011. http://www.marincleanenergy.info/images/stories/PDF/MCE_Release_Person_of_the_Year_Award_2010.pdf

  • Byron Washom alerted us to the following March forum being held at UC San Diego:

U.S. Department of Energy/California Public Utilities Commission
    High Penetration Solar Forum

In 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) are partnering to address the technical challenges facing the industry in integrating high penetrations of solar energy into the grid. The goal is to make solar energy cost compatible with grid electricity and also to enable the high penetration of solar energy without subsidy in the U.S. electricity market.

The DOE/CPUC High Penetration Solar Forum, on March 1–2, 2011, will bring together industry experts to present on interim findings of current demonstration and modeling projects simulating high penetrations of solar. These projects are either funded through DOE's High Penetration Solar Deployment award or the California Solar Initiative (CSI) Research, Development, Demonstration, and Deployment (RD&D) solicitations. http://www1.eere.energy.gov/solar/solar_forum.html
